Basseterre, St. Kitts (October 14, 2024) – In a heartfelt and moving ceremony on Thursday, October 11, 2024, the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) officially renamed its headquarters as the Alphonso E. Bridgewater Olympic House, paying tribute to the legacy of the late Alphonso E. Bridgewater, former president of the SKNOC. During the ceremony, current SKNOC President, Mr. Dennis 'Freddie' Knight, delivered a poignant address celebrating the visionary leadership of his predecessor. Knight detailed Bridgewater’s tireless efforts and strategic foresight in realizing the creation of a permanent headquarters for the National Olympic Committee. He also presented a collection of key correspondences that Bridgewater had written throughout his illustrious career, showcasing his dedication to advancing the Olympic movement in St. Kitts and Nevis. In his speech, President Knight expressed deep gratitude to the SKNOC’s member federations for their unwavering support. He noted that when presented with the opportunity to honor Bridgewater’s legacy, the federations swiftly and unanimously recommended that the SKNOC headquarters bear his name in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports development in the country. Also in attendance at the renaming ceremony was the Director of Sport in the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Jeffery Hazel, who voiced the Ministry’s full support of the gesture to commemorate Bridgewater's legacy. The ceremony was further graced by the presence of Her Excellency, Dame Marcella Liburd, GCMG, JP, Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the family of the late Alphonso Bridgewater, past and present members of the SKNOC Executive Committee, and representatives from the SKNOC’s member federations. Immediately following the renaming ceremony, the SKNOC convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the period 2023-2024. The next AGM is scheduled for November 2024.
